WHAT IS PUPILLARY DISTANCE?
Pupillary distance (PD) measures the space between the pupils of your eyes. Knowing this measurement is very important to make sure your eyes match up with the optical center of your lenses, otherwise you wont be able to see correctly with your new glasses. The average adult’s PD is between 54-74; kids’ are between 43-54.
HOW TO MEASURE AT HOME?
You can measure your Pupillary Distance using a mirror, a small ruler marked in millimeters, a pencil & paper.
STEP ONE
Stand about 8” away from a mirror. Grab your ruler in one hand. Have your pencil and paper ready. Look straight ahead into the mirror and position the ruler over the bridge of your nose.
STEP TWO
Starting with the right eye, line up the zero end of the ruler at your pupil; measure the distance from your right to your left pupil. The millimeter number that lines up with your left pupil is the measurement you want. That number is your PD.
Just to be sure, measure a few more times to make sure you get the same number. You want it to be accurate.
STEP THREE
Starting with the left eye, line up the zero end of the ruler at your pupil; measure the distance from your left to your right pupil. The millimeter number that lines up with your right pupil is the measurement you want. That number is your PD.
Just to be sure, measure a few more times to make sure you get the same number. You want it to be accurate.
